5 Reasons To Have An Engagement Shoot

IMG_5737.jpg

A pre-wedding shoot or engagement session, although not a necessity is something that so far, all my couples have thoroughly enjoyed and even found amazing ways to use the images afterwards for. It usually starts with ‘I hate having my photo taken’ or ‘i’m not photogenic at all’, and I totally get the camera dread too, so it doesn’t have to be a formal thing.

So overwhelmed at the comments of the shoot. Delighted Sheena. This is coming from Chrissy & I who absolutely hate getting our picture taken!

So here’s 5 reasons why I feel engagement sessions are so valuable and how they can help decrease the stress of a wedding day..

  1. You get the chance to have some really lovely non-wedding photos of the two of you!

Maybe you have a special spot where you proposed? Or an important place to you that you wouldn’t necessarily get to on your wedding day…AND the opportunity to be more adventurous whilst not wearing a wedding dress or a suit!

Don’t have a special spot? Just explore somewhere completely new and I always have a list of recommendations so you have ample spots to choose from. There are no limits and you can really capture the essence of your relationship anywhere.

2. These sessions are great for us to get to know each other!

When your photographer is the one vendor you will spend most of your day with, it can be great to break the ice beforehand and go for a casual walk and chat about the finer wedding details. On the flipside, we get to find out more about your wedding day and what works for you/is most important to you as a couple, whilst also sharing valuable tips from previous wedding experience.

3. It’s good practice for your wedding day.. and it’s not as scary as it sounds!

We don’t expect you to know what to do, but instead use subtle guides and prompts to make the experience as relaxed and easy-going as possible. Helping you become more comfortable in front of the camera before the big day – win win! (with a little practice you can say bye to the Chandler Bing smile!) … and much like the wedding day, you won’t even notice I am there!

4. You can have beautiful prints from your engagement shoot on display at the wedding.

Use them for table ideas, guestbooks, wedding websites or invites/save the dates. Such a lovely personal touch!

5. Think of it as some quality time together!

Why not make a special day of it, just to have a laugh and forget about the stresses of wedding planning. Going on past experience, everyone enjoys themselves and it isn’t as bad as you might think. (looking at you grooms!) No awkward stiff poses here!
